Have you ever been thrown in Facebook jail? Have you have been temporarily blocked by Facebook from posting or commenting? Not a nice feeling, huh? I remember being blocked twice, and it was not cool!
According to the Facebook police, one has violated one or more rules, or their content has been seen as spam.
A very large portion of the world’s population is on Facebook, and it’s a great platform for
entrepreneurs.
But there are rules to follow, and any minor violations can cause you to be blocked by Facebook, or have your account banned.
The 3 Reasons Most People Visit Facebook
Before I go into how to avoid being blocked by Facebook, let’s talk about why most people go on Facebook.
1.They are there to connect – friends and family
2.They are there to share – stories, pictures etc.
3. They are there for inspiration, and to be entertained.
People do not necessarily hop on Facebook to solve a problem, or buy products and services. This does not mean you cannot promote your business, if it’s done correctly.
It’s important to always think of Facebook as a social platform which is the whole idea, anyway. It’s not meant to be a pitch fest. So the last thing you want to do is shove your business in people’s faces.
Facebook is all about contributing to the user experience. You have to be an active contributor to this eco-system, or else you can get trouble for violation.
With that being said, let’s talk about…
How To Avoid Being Blocked By Facebook
1. Give Space Between Posts
It’s a good practice to allow time between posts especially if you’re new. When you first go on Facebook, you have to “break yourself in”, so they will get used to your posting pattern.
If you post too quickly, you can be seen as a spammer and get penalized. So, to avoid being blocked by Facebook, give space between posts.
And because the organic reach has gone down so much, you need to post epic and valuable posts to get engagement, allowing your posts to be shown more.
2. No Spamming
Like I said before, Facebook is not a marketplace, so you’ll be penalized for “spamming” your links. Plus, they do not like when the user is taken away to other websites.
So instead of spamming links, ask your viewers to send you a private message or “comment below” and you’ll send them more info.
As a marketer, it’s all about building relationships and seeing if people are open to what you have.
Do not hijack other people’s posts by promoting your business on them. You can be seen as a spammer and get blocked by Facebook.
Do not send any unsolicited links!
3. Be Original
To avoid being blocked by Facebook, you need to be original. Be careful with using images that have been marked as spam, or are not royalty free. Unsplash.com and Pexels.com are two sites you can use for royalty free images.
You can create your own images and picture quotes using free tools like Canva.com and Wordswag.
Originality does not only refer to pictures, but any form of content. You want to emulate, not plagiarize.
Creating original content not only prevents you from being blocked by Facebook, but helps to build your brand as well.
4. Be Careful With Tagging
Have you ever been tagged in a post that you know nothing about or not a part of? Annoying, right? So be careful with tagging people in posts who are not connected with you.
Only tag people in posts that they are actually in, and would approve of. The people who get tagged are notified, and if they remove the tag, you may be at risk for being marked as spam.
The better thing to do is to tag them in the “comments” section.
5. Avoid Copying And Pasting
Avoid copying and pasting other people’s content. Similar to Google, Facebook sees this as duplicate content and you can be penalized.
Besides, copying and pasting makes you look like an amateur marketer. Come up with your own content and you’ll be respected for that.
You can always share and add your own content to the post. If you see a post that you like, get some ideas and put your own spin on it.
6. Friend Requests
Do not send too many friend requests at once. I would say about 5-10 friend requests per hour. You also want to send requests to those who are more likely to accept them.
When your friend requests are deleted or ignored, Facebook sees this as spamming, especially if you not have any mutual friends.
Always bear in mind that Facebook is a social platform, not a market place or dating site, for that matter! Just had to throw that in there:)
Contribute to the user experience and follow the rules and you’ll be fine.
